Andalusia City Schools discussed three personnel matters among other topics at a regularly scheduled board meeting Monday night.

Superintendent Dr. Daniel Shakespeare said the target date of the new cafeteria project is set for March 28. Shakespeare also shared a COVID update with the board.

“Our COVID numbers are down considerably. As of Nov. 12 at Andalusia Elementary School, we had one positive. At Andalusia High School, we had one positive and one staff to test positive. We had 113 positive students and 24 staff members from the beginning of the year but have seen a considerable drop in numbers the last couple of weeks so that’s good,” he said.

In personnel matters, the board approved a leave of absence for Emily Smith, registered nurse at Andalusia High School.

The board hired Holly Palmer as a paraprofessional and Dewayne Sutton as a custodian.

The board discussed a revision to the supplement schedule and elected to add an assistant coach position in boys’ basketball and softball.

In other business:

• Educational Technology Specialist Jessica Tucker gave an overview of the school system’s Promethean boards with a demonstration.
• Chief School Financial Officer Katie Odom discussed financial statements and cash balance/bank reconciliations.
• The board will begin soliciting bids for an HVAC unit in the high school gym.
• The board will utilize Lean Frog for a strategic plan with hopes to take the system to top-tier status in the state.
• The board discussed ideas for an updated entrance to the baseball field.

The board went into executive session to discuss legal matters before ending the meeting.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 13 with a workshop at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starting at approximately 6:30 to 7 p.m.
