Eleanor Elizabeth Garrett Williamson of the Coldwater community passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, at the age of 94.

Eleanor was the oldest of the five children of Greeley and Ruth Hare Garrett, all of whom, to her sorrow, she outlived. The youngest, Mike, died in a car wreck soon after graduation from Pleasant Home School in 1969. Rebecca Garrett Davis, Jearldyne Garrett Kelley, and Verlyn Garrett lived long lives, which Eleanor shared with them and their respective spouses and families.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her beloved husband of 59 years, James Irvin (Jim) Williamson. Originally from the Brooklyn community, Eleanor made a home with her family at Gantt Lake for 64 years: skiing, fishing, and enjoying the lake life. She is survived by the niece they reared, Tammie Evans; Tammie’s husband, Dennis; and their daughters, Brandi and Mallory, who called her “Nanny” and revered her as their grandmother. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews from both the Garrett and Williamson families. Eleanor was a “second mother” to many children who grew up on Riverview Road and loved them all dearly.

Eleanor was a 1946 graduate of Pleasant Home School and worked at the Alatex for 40 years before her retirement. A trip to town with Tammie or her daughters seemed not to be complete without people telling them that they loved Ms. Eleanor as their supervisor at the Alatex.

Upon her retirement from Alatex, she continued her work in textiles at Simply Silk. She cared for her husband as he succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease and then was a sitter for the elderly. Eleanor’s life was one of service and kindness. She spent her life attending Cedar Grove Church of Christ and Shady Grove Church of Christ. She will be interred alongside her parents and husband at Cedar Grove Church of Christ Cemetery on Brooklyn Road in Andalusia.

The funeral was held at Cedar Grove Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6. Masks were requested inside the church. Visitation of the family was after the graveside service at the cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Garrett, Nathan Davis, Mark Davis, Kevin Davis, Ronald Williamson, and Buddy Dean.
