Opp concluded the 2021-2022 regular season on a high note with a three-game sweep over area foe Goshen last Friday.

“All three teams had very good wins for our basketball program. The win put the girls in second place in the area, and the boys will host the area tournament by finishing first. I don’t remember who all scored for the girls, but I think everybody almost scored for the boys,” Head Coach Willie Edwards said.

The Bobcats (17-6, 6-0 3A Area 4) collected a 76-35 win with a balanced effort on both sides of the ball. Jabarri Hill led OHS with 22 points and six steals. Zack Hill added 13 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and five blocks. JaKanye Mount had nine points, six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. JD Burney paced the Eagles with 12 points off four three-pointers. The win allowed Opp to finish undefeated in area play for the second straight year.

The Lady Bobcats (7-10, 4-2 3A Area 4) clicked on offense and shined on defense with a 47-18 win. Vanessa Stoudemire tied a career-high with 30 points and also added eight steals and five rebounds. Ashley Kelley notched nine points and five rebounds, while Amiya Thompson collected eight rebounds. Haylee Sanford and Ajayden Rogers had seven and six points for the Lady Eagles, respectively.

The OHS junior varsity boys (10-5) also had a big showing and picked up a 49-19 win in their season finale. Reed Adams earned a career-high 16 points to go with five rebounds. Joshua Smith tallied nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Dorian Harris and Daylen Thigpen both finished the game with eight points. Ahmad Rogers hit a pair of three-pointers and led GHS with six points.

Opp now turns attention to the all-important area tournament next week.

“We haven’t finalized the dates yet, but we look pretty good going into area. The biggest thing now is winning your first game to be able to play two more rounds,” Edwards said.
