Habitat for Humanity of Covington County seeks volunteers to help with a “Building Blitz” this week.

Habitat for Humanity of Covington County is finalizing plans for the Building Blitz that will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, beginning at 8 a.m.

“We are so excited to be standing up wall panels — inner and outer — installing trusses, wrapping the house, and anchoring down panels among many other things,” said local Habitat for Humanity representative Cindi Rider. “We have supervisors to direct but what we need are volunteers that are willing to be involved in all sorts of ways.”

Organizers will provide volunteers with the necessary equipment — tools, hard hats, nail aprons, as well as volunteer t-shirts, water, snacks, and a lunch.

Work on the project will begin each morning at 8 a.m. and will usually continue until about 4 p.m.

“Come when you can; we will be there all day both days. There is not a lot of parking on site so we will provide transportation from the empty lot next to Jackson Honda to the site,” Rider said.

Habitat representatives said the project is also a good opportunity for those interested in applying for an HFH home.

“If you are interested in making an application to HFH to be a partner family seeking an HFH home, your hours of sweat equity can start right here. Also, there will be volunteers there to guide you in the application process. This is our ninth build in Covington County and it is a phenomenal experience to be involved in the Building Blitz! We start the morning with a foundation, and the home is sitting on-site by Saturday night.”

For more information call Habitat at 334-222- 0827 and receive a call back regarding questions or other details.

“We need all levels of help from the unskilled to the skilled and all will be welcomed. Grab a buddy and come build,” Rider said.
