The creativity of students was on full display last week during Andalusia Elementary School’s art show.

The show, held in conjunction with Artome, allows for parents and others to purchase the art as a fundraiser for the school. Funds raised benefit the school’s art program.

While AES has held the art show for about 10 years, the show was canceled for two years due to COVID and last year’s show was an online hybrid system.

According to AES Art Teacher Cathy Powell, the show featured about 1,100 pieces of art created by students in kindergarten through sixth grades.

“It’s amazing. We get a great response from the community. The kids love to have their parents come in and find their work. For many of our kids, this is their first art show so it is really exciting for them,” Powell said.

Artome frames all of the artwork and ships those sold to the buyers. Those not sold are shipped back to the school.

“It’s a great program. We could not afford to have them framed and for the kids, seeing their work framed, makes it even more special,” Powell said.
