CCBOE names next Florala head coach; makes end-of-year personnel decisions

The Covington County Board of Education made 33 personnel decisions including 14 new hires and named the next Florala head football coach during a special called board meeting Tuesday, May 24.

Jordan Cantrell will take over the football program at Florala High School and replace Chris Littleton, who resigned after three seasons with the Wildcats. Littleton will become the new offensive coordinator with New Brockton next school year.

Cantrell comes to FHS from Elmore County High School where he served as the head football coach. He will be teaching history at the school in addition to his head coaching responsibilities.

Board members recognized students from Florala, Pleasant Home, Red Level, and Straughn for their athletic achievements during the 2021-2022 school year.

  • The board sought permission to bid service of bread and ice cream.
  • The board approved the fiscal year 2022 budget amendment #2.
  • The board approved allowing surplus textbooks determined to be of no monetary value to be offered to students currently attending Covington County Schools or donate to a nonprofit charitable organization.

The board set the next meeting for Tuesday, June 7, at the central office at 5:30 p.m.
