CCBOE recognizes SHS JAG, handles personnel changes

The Covington County Board of Education recognized the Straughn High School JAG program and made 12 personnel changes during a regularly scheduled board meeting Tuesday, June 28.

The board recognized the JAG program at SHS and Director Kaci Perry for placing in the top 10 at the “Jobs for America’s Graduates National Career Development Conference” recently held in Dallas, Texas. Students recognized for “business plan” were Mallory Hall, Hallie Goodman, and Hayden Blair. Students recognized for “project-based learning showcase” were Jaycie Coleman, Summer Brown, Shaylee Harrison, and Cameron Wambles.

The board approved executing Preliminary TEAMS contracts effective August 8 to the following: Joseph Carter, Amy Godwin, Gavin Klinge, Jamie Snider, and Jessica Ward. The board approved executing Advanced TEAMS contracts effective August 8 to the following: Stephen Bowen, Hollie Carter, Chelsea Farley, Angelia Holliday, Brianna Leitschuck, Jennifer Lindsey, Stacy McLaurin, Shanda Osborn, Ramona Thomas, Andrea Weeks, Melissa Windham, and Elizabeth Wood.

Employment:

  • Dustin Michael Hinson as staff assistant at Florala High School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
  • Tracie Evon Dye as custodian/bus driver at Pleasant Home School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
  • Brittany Allen Mills as elementary teacher at Red Level School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
  • Samantha Francis Brown as elementary teacher at RLS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, pending verification of new or existing background reviews

Resignation:

  • Rachel Smith as pre-K teacher at RLS retroactive to June 8
  • Christa Holley Clifton as elementary teacher at Straughn Elementary School retroactive to June 10

Transfer:

  • Tammy Glidewell from special education teacher at SES to special education teacher at the Central Office effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year
  • Delisa Freeney from lunchroom worker at Straughn High School to lunchroom worker at Straughn Middle School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year
  • Carmen W. Powell from elementary teacher at RLS to elementary teacher at Fleeta Junior High School effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year
  • John Kaleb Powell from special education teacher at FHS to special education teacher at SHS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year
  • Brooke Eddins Centner from elementary teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School to pre-K teacher at RLS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year
  • Cynthia F. Perrin from bus driver at SHS to cafeteria worker at SHS effective at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year

In other business:

  • The board accepted an ice cream bid from Hershey Creamery Company for Covington County Schools at a total average unit price of .4675.
  • The board accepted a bread bid from Bimbo Bakeries at a price of $23,060.
  • The board sought permission to bid propane.
  • The board adopted the following school handbooks for the 2022-2023 school year: FHS, PHS, SES, SMS, SHS, and WSH.
  • The board adopted changes to the Code of Student Conduct for the 2022-2023 school year.

The board set two possible dates for the next meeting to be held either Tuesday, July 19 or Tuesday, July 26.
