Andalusia Isshinryu Karate competes in Tennessee

The IIKA Middle Tennessee Isshinryu Open Karate Games were held in Watertown, Tennessee on June 25.

The tournament was hosted by the Lebanon, Tennessee Dojo and instructors Tony Williams and Sandra Strong.

Four Andalusia Isshinryu competitors competed in the tournament and had an outstanding day. Team members Camille Holley, Taj Patel, Dhilan Patel, and Johnathan Rudd each competed in Weapons, Kata, and Fighting for their belt and age category.

Local winners were:

Camille Holley – Black Belt Women’s division – 1st place weapons, 1st place kata, 1st place fighting. Camille also won the Adult Black Belt Kata Grand Championship and the Women’s Fighting Grand Championship. Camille is an Andalusia Black Belt, currently a member of the Bryan College Martial Arts team in Dayton, Tennessee.

Taj Patel – Youth Black Belt division – 1st place weapons, 1st place kata, 1st place fighting, and Youth Kata Grand Champion.

Johnathan Rudd – 9 and 10-year-old Brown Belt division – 1st weapons, 1st Kata, 1st fighting

Next up for the AIK Team is the Isshinryu Hall of Fame Banquet and Tournament on July 15th and 16th in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The IHOF is the largest Isshinryu tournament in the world and draws competitors from all over the United States and several other countries that send teams to the event.
