Susan Ennis Long, age 63, after a long illness, passed away May 24, 2022. She was at peace and surrounded by friends and family. Susan, who was a Christian, and who was raised in a Christian Church, now she is safe and whole in the arms of the Lord and her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Kathryn Tolliver Ennis and her father, Ben F. Ennis Jr.

She is survived by her devoted and loving spouse, Robert L. Long, her brother, David Ennis and his wife Jen, sister, Melinda Farley and her husband Wayne Farley.

Susan was born and Beckley, West Virginia, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She attended St Mary’s School of nursing in Huntington, W.VA. and received her BSN nursing degree from West Virginia University. Her master’s degree was in hospital administration and child health from the University of Florida. As a nurse she was head of the department at Regional General Hospital, worked in the neonatal intensive care unit at WVU, and eventually was the youngest director of nursing in the HCA Hospital Company.

Her skills, interest, and talents were varied and included weaving and spinning, stained glass projects, equines, (especially mules and donkeys), interior designs, farming and land management, motor scooter, dogs. (especially standard poodles), cooking and backing (especially desserts), gardening, exotic fish, and traveling. She excelled in everything she did. She made numerous friends over the years because of her kindness, appreciation and compassion.

Her greatest accomplishment was being a devoted, wonderful, loving, and trusted wife and companion for 40 years. She made quite an impact on those that knew her as a friend. The void created when she passed can never be filled. Her home is in Heaven, waiting to be joined by her friends, family, and spouse.

A memorial service for Susan Long will be 12PM Saturday July 16, 2022 at Evans Funeral Home in Florala, Alabama. Please RSVP promptly to attend, to allow proper accommodations (850-974-6848). This service will celebrate Susan’s life and accomplishments and allow an opportunity to thank and acknowledge the people and institutions who skillfully and compassionately participated in her care that helped to ease her pain and suffering.
