The Bicanek family moved from Chicago in 1950 to a 160-acre farm in Conway, Arkansas. Joan attended Ellen Smith Elementary, Conway Jr. High, and High School through the tenth grade. Then our family moved to Pleasant Home, Alabama where Joanie attended Pleasant Home High School, her eleventh-grade year, and graduated from Andalusia High School in 1964.

After graduation, Joan moved to Southern California and worked for the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power and then International Paper. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois working for American Logistics. Her working career spanned over 40 years.

Joan is survived by her son, Robert Young Jr., and daughter-in-law, Danielle of Post Falls, Idaho; two grandchildren, Robert Young III and David Young both of Hermitage, Tennessee. Additional survivors include one brother, George Bicanek Jr., and sister-in-law, Teresa, of Lomita, California; three sisters, Carol Goodwin of Linwood, Kansas, Nancy Miyar and brother-in-law Manny of Parrish, Florida; and Linda Bingle of Costa Mesa, California.
