Meredith’s Miracles is seeking donations from the general public to be used toward the non-profit organization’s Adopt a Family and Fund a Trip fundraiser.

“We have had a 75 percent increase in families needing funding this year. Times are hard right now on a lot of families. The need is huge. We need urgent help funding this many families. We have grown so much that we are unable to keep up with the demand. We are hoping that everyone can help us get the word out through the Adopt a Family, Fund a Trip,” Meredith’s Miracles Executive Director Kiley Spears said.

Spears added that the fundraiser would run for a few months. “We don’t have time to pull together an event. We had to come up with an idea that the public could help. No matter if someone has $10 or $500, they can make a difference. We need urgent help with funding now.”

Meredith’s Miracles estimates the need for $80,000 to finish the year with funding.

“Funds will go directly to help children travel to medical appointments or emergencies when they have to travel away from their home. This is our mission, and we want to continue to keep helping families in need. We have just had such an increase in need that we are struggling to keep up with the need,” she said.

Donations for Adopt a Family, Fund a Trip can be made online, through the mail, or by delivering a check to Meredith’s Miracles.

“Visit our website where you can make a payment with credit cards or mail in a check. You can even drop by our office to give your donation to Adopt a Family, Fund a Trip.”

Spears said she was grateful to accept donations from the public that will go toward a good cause.

“We have helped so many families over the last 17 years. We love what we do to help families through a difficult time in their life.  We want to keep making a difference, but we need your help to keep funding families to get to their medical trips.”

In addition to donating money, Meredith’s Miracles asks the public to help by spreading the word. “Please share our story, and tell all your friends. We put this on our Facebook page the other day, and it reached 8,000 people. If everyone had donated $10, then that would have raised $80,000, so everyone can make a difference. It all adds up. Please help us keep making a difference in families’ lives,” Spears said.

Meredith’s Miracles was developed when three-year-old Meredith McGlamory was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Wilms Tumors. After two years of radiation, chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries, Meredith stopped responding to treatments and lost her battle with cancer on Sept. 7, 2003, at the age of five. The non-profit organization specializes in helping families financially during medical emergencies and assists families with non-medical expenses that can accrue when a child becomes ill such as hotel boarding, car rentals, food, and gasoline.
