Andalusia City Schools has announced that its Child Nutrition Department will revert back to the way it operated before March 2020 with free breakfast and paid lunches beginning in August.

“Breakfast and lunch will still be available to all students; however, they will not be free to all students. Breakfast is always free, but lunch is not. That means families will need to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. These forms are available online at myschoolapps.com or on a paper application that teachers will hand out in information packets,” said Child Nutrition Director Shan Burkhardt.

According to Burkhardt, one application will need to be filled out per household.

“For example, if I have a child at Andalusia Elementary and a child at Andalusia Jr. High, I would still only fill out one application, but please list every single person in that household, even babies, on that one application. Be sure to sign it at the bottom and enter the last four digits of your social security number in the space provided. List all members of the family on the application.”

Students who do not qualify for free or reduced-priced meals must pay full price for lunch starting the first day of school. Lunch price for the 2022-2023 school year has been set to $2.50 for students from pre-K through twelfth grade. Those who qualify for reduced-price lunch will pay $0.40.

“If you would like to send money, we will deposit it into your child’s account, or you can go online at myschoolbucks.com and pay online. Students who receive SNAP benefits will automatically receive free meals without filling out an application,” Burkhardt added.
