Loango man killed in motorcycle crash

A Covington County man and active volunteer firefighter in the River Falls community was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday.

Robert Allen Mitchell, 58, of the Loango Community was killed while returning home after participating in a charity Poker Run earlier that day.

According to officials, Mitchell was traveling west on Point A Road when his Harley Davidson motorcycle left the road. River Falls police and deputies with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 5 p.m. Mitchell was announced deceased at the scene.

River Falls Police Chief Kyle Adams reported that Mitchell is a member of the River Falls Volunteer Fire Department and served with the Loango Volunteer Fire Department. He was known for organizing poker runs to assist families that needed financial assistance for medical expenses.

Chief Adams expressed his gratitude to all responding officers as well as the Gantt Fire Department for their assistance.
