Andalusia scores shut out against Dale County, 43-0

Andalusia scored a shut-out win in its first region game of the season, bringing home a 43-0 victory over Dale County.

The Bulldog defense was on fire, holding Dale County to only 84 yards of total offense, including holding the Warrior’s rushing attack to -58 yards. The defense forced two turnovers and recording five sacks.

Leading the defense was Cameron Johnson with 5.5 tackles with four of those being for a loss.

Meanwhile, the offense was kicking on all cylinders, racking up a total of 455 yards on the ground, led by J’Marion Burnette who finished with 136 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Freshman Zerrick Jones made the most of his snaps, carrying the ball 21 times for 120 yards and a touchdown. Senior Dorian Crittenden also had a strong outing, notching 96 yards and touchdown on seven carries.

Quarterback Jack Lathrop went 5-of-11 for 109 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown to Kaden Denson.

The Bulldogs got things going early with a 72-yard touchdown run by Burnette.

Less than a minute later, a recovered fumble by Bulldog Kam Weaver into the endzone lifted Andalusia to a 13-0 lead. Late in the first, Lathrop found Denson for the 65-yard score and Kolya Barton’s field goal made it 20-0.

The Bulldogs scored once in the second on a 20-yard run by Burnette, making the halftime score 26-0.

The only score of the third came courtesy of Crittenden who took a handoff 44 yards.

In the final period, Barton hit a 26-yard field goal. Jones finished the scoring on a 1-yard run.

Andalusia (3-0, 1-0) will celebrate homecoming next week when they welcome region opponent Bullock County (2-1, 0-1).
