Grab those brooms and suit up for the Junior Service League of Andalusia’s second annual Witches Ride.

Registration is now open for the Oct. 29th event, and President Ashley Morgan said residents can join in the club’s mission to give back to the community by not only participating in this year’s parade, but also in the club’s new “B-Witched” fundraiser beginning on Oct. 1.

First organized in 1975, the club began its mission of service in 1976. Since then, it’s worked to support local schools, other civic organizations, and clubs to promote community betterment. Today, the JSLA supports our National Night Out, Meredith’s Miracles Cookies for Characters, Community Christmas, and the Covington County Foster Closet.

“Each year, we hope to grow not only our club, but also our list of fundraisers and recipients,” Morgan said. “With that, we’ve added our ‘B-Witched’ fundraiser where those within the city limits (of Andalusia) can have their friends ‘B-Witched’ with our mascot. The friend then must pay $10 to pass it on to the next friend. It’s just another way to raise money to help our community.”

To order up a witch for a friend, call or text 334.603.1790, Morgan said.

Registration for this year’s Witches Ride has moved to an online platform using a QR Code, and in addition to the participant list of walkers ($10), bicycle riders ($20), side-by-sides/golf carts ($30), and trailers ($50), four wheelers and motorcycles can now enter. Cost for those entries is $30. Deadline to order T-shirts is Oct. 1.

On-site registration will begin at 4 p.m. at the Andalusia Farmer’s Market on Central Street. The ride is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The route, which will be the traditional parade route, will begin and end at the Farmer’s Market. Prizes will again be awarded for the best costume/decoration in each category.

“Last year, participation was great, and the costumes were amazing,” Morgan said. “We hope to build on that this year.”

“We hope to see this fun family event during October grow over the coming years to include even more events,” she said. “We can’t wait to see everyone there.”
