Andalusia High School senior Meleah Treadaway has qualified as a semifinalist in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“It’s very rewarding to see how hard work and sacrifice can pay off. I just feel incredibly grateful to be able to represent my family, my school, and my community in this way. I’m very excited for whatever the future holds,” Treadaway said.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, “Qualifying as a semifinalist is only the first step in the competition for National Merit Scholarship. To receive further consideration, you must advance to Finalist standing by fulfilling additional requirements; only Finalists can compete for Merit Scholarship awards.”

Treadaway serves a number of roles at AHS such as the SGA president, Homecoming Court senior attendant, the yearbook staff’s project manager, and the marching band’s pit section leader.

She is a City of Andalusia Ambassador and program aide for South Central Alabama Mental Health Center.

Treadaway has received many honors in the past, including the National Honor Society, Girls State Representative, DAR Good Citizenship Award, and National Merit Rural and Small Town Recognition.

“We are so proud of Meleah. She is an outstanding student who has excelled in all areas. We congratulate her on this distinguished award and wish her the best as she continues with this prestigious program,” Principal Ray Wilson said.

Treadaway plans to attend The University of Alabama’s Honors College and become a child psychiatrist.

She is the daughter of Angi Hicks and Marty Treadaway.
