The Public Information and Marketing Department at LBW Community College received two awards during the annual conference of the Alabama Community College System Public Relations Association (ACCSPRA).

“For my first-ever conference, I was ecstatic to be recognized for my work at the state level. The rebranding project was a huge undertaking, and to win a Pyramid Award for the logo designs makes me proud,” LBW Marketing Director Maggie Jones Mash said.

The Pyramid Awards competition is among all community colleges within the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) and judged by an independent panel of advertising, public relations, and media professionals.

LBW Community College was awarded the Pyramid Award in the Logo Design category for the recent rebranding project and an Award of Merit in the Special Events category for Little Builders.

“Over the past two years, we have made significant strides in becoming the community’s college. One of the biggest steps in doing so was rebuilding the brand to streamline our vision to be more prominent in the community. Maggie has led the charge from establishing a unified system of public relations and marketing to expanding our social media footprint. Mrs. Mash’s work has been noticed by the Alabama Community College System and recently awarded her with two prestigious marketing awards. LBW is blessed to have her as she continues to become the standard for public information officers around the state,” LBW President Dr. Brock Kelley added.

Under Mash’s leadership, the college unveiled new academic and athletic branding in July 2021. Following that, an updated college website and new athletic website were released. Recently, a new mascot, Blue the Saint Bernard, and all new career technical and health program videos were created.

In coordination with the new Building Construction Program offered at the college, LBW Little Builders was organized by Director of Workforce Development Chad Sutton in partnership with Construction Ready to offer ‘little builders’ classes with local elementary school students. Since April 2022, LBW Little Builders has educated over 150 young learners in the field of construction through hands-on projects.

The mission of ACCSPRA is to enhance the image, strengthen, and promote awareness and public perception of the Alabama Community College System.
