The City of Andalusia will move forward on a water and street project with a grant helping offset a big portion of the costs.

The city council on Tuesday approved a low bid of $898,672 for upgrades to the water system under N. Cotton Street and a portion of Eighth Avenue. The project cost also includes expenses for resurfacing the streets when the water project is completed. The low bid was submitted by Bullard Excavating Company.

The majority of the project will be paid through a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant with the remaining costs being split between the City of Andalusia and the Andalusia Utilities Board. The cost for the city will be $132,590. The city is responsible for the paving while the utilities board is paying for the water improvements.
