Cynthia Nan Hutcheson Taylor, age 71, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, surrounded by her husband, family, and generations of love.

Cynthia was born in Florala on Nov. 7, 1951. She met her high school sweetheart and husband of 51 years, Johnny Taylor, at Florala High School. After graduating, she attended the Mastin School of Nursing (now the University of South Alabama School of Nursing) and would spend the rest of her life taking care of others. Cynthia is preceded in death by her father, Ben Faye Hutcheson, and mother, Mary Nan Johnson (Murry Johnson).

Patients, colleagues, and “her babies” would tell you that Cynthia was a passionate advocate for children’s health. She began her nursing career at Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp and then taught nursing at MacArthur State Technical College for 20 years. While pursuing her CRNP (Nurse Practitioners License), she worked nights as a nurse supervisor at Andalusia Hospital. In 1997, she joined Covington Pediatrics as a rural health nurse practitioner. Cynthia helped establish the practice, starting with seven to nine patients a day, and when she retired in 2015, the clinic was seeing 35 to 40 patients a day serving children and families in Covington, Coffee, Crenshaw, Butler, and Conecuh counties. She touched so many lives, not just through her work, but her dedication to family, her work in the community, her infectious laugh, and her generosity to every person who crossed her path.

Cynthia was an adoring and devoted wife, a selfless mother and friend, a loving sister, and a perfect “MiMi” to her two grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Taylor; two children, Ben (Lori) and Mary Anne; two grandchildren, Annabelle and Macy; and sister, Cecelia Johnson, affectionately known as Cissy. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia on Friday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. All are welcome. The family then invites you to join them in the Church fellowship hall immediately following the service for lunch and laughter to celebrate the extraordinary life of Cynthia Taylor.
