County BOE approves 12 personnel matters

The Covington County Board of Education approved 12 personnel matters at its first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 3.

During the meeting the board approved:

Leave of Absence:

  • A medical leave of absence with benefits under the Family Medical Leave Act was granted to Terri L. Norris, bus driver at Fleeta Junior High School retroactive for the month of December.
  • A medical leave of absence with benefits under the Family Medical Leave Act was granted to Madison Griffin, elementary teacher at Straughn Elementary School retroactive for the month of December.

Resignation:

  • Tracie Evon Dye was bus driver/custodian at Pleasant Home School retroactive to Dec. 31
  • Hayden Raines as JAG paraprofessional at Red Level School retroactive to Dec. 31
  • Brook E. Centner as pre-K teacher at RLS retroactive to Dec. 31
  • Auburn Ward Carrier as pre-K teacher at SES effective Jan. 18
  • Gary Ben Martin as special education teacher at Straughn Middle School retroactive to Dec. 31
  • Madison McCormick as paraprofessional at W.S. Harlan Elementary School retroactive to Dec. 31

Employment:

  • Dawn Elizabeth Smith as bus driver/custodian at PHS effective immediately, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
  • Kristy Lord as JAG paraprofessional at RLS effective immediately, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
  • Kayla W. Stovall as pre-K teacher at SES effective immediately, pending verification of new or existing background reviews
  • Madison McCormick as special education teacher at WSH effective immediately, pending verification of new or existing background reviews

In other business:

  • Superintendent Shannon Driver administered certificates of affirmation for school board members Jeff Bailey and James Barton, who were uncontested in the 2022 election. Bailey is currently serving as president, and Barton is currently serving as vice president.
  • Chief School Finance Officer Ressie Gray presented the board with the November 2022 distribution of financial reports that have been reconciled to most current bank statements.

The board set the next meeting date for Tuesday, Feb. 7, 5:30 p.m., at the central office.
