Bulldogs dominate Slocomb, advance to area championship game

Andalusia’s varsity boys turned several turnovers into points and rolled to an 81-55 win over Slocomb in the 4A Area 3 Tournament semi-final matchup at home Tuesday, Feb. 7.

With the win, the Bulldogs even their record at 12-12 and advance to the area title game against second-seed Geneva Friday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. The Red Tops ended their season.

SHS scored the first basket of the contest before AHS responded with a seven-point swing for a 7-2 lead. The Red Tops then took an 8-7 lead before momentum shifted to the Bulldogs who took a 20-8 lead. Brody Campbell cut the deficit to 23-11 with a long three-pointer and had seven points in the period. Kam Weaver notched 14 points in the opening frame and followed by Tevin Sigers at seven. Andalusia held a 32-11 lead after one and pushed its advantage out to 40-17 following consecutive treys from Sigers. Jordan Stallworth added six points, while Christian Sheridan grabbed three as the halftime score stood at 55-30. Cade Birge had eight points for Slocomb in the second, and Rashawn Miller chipped in six.

The offenses continued to find the hoop with a combined 35 points in the third period. Cadariyus Love and Weaver led the Bulldogs with four apiece followed by three from Emanuel Marshall at three. That took the margin to 75-45 with eight minutes remaining. Brock Hatcher converted four field goals for the Red Tops, and Birge added another three. Slocomb opened the fourth period with a 7-2 run and trimmed the gap to 77-52. Hatcher, Miller, and Campbell accounted for SHS’ 10 points. With a running clock in effect, AHS received six points from Tyler and Tevin Sigers.

Weaver and Tevin Sigers paced Andalusia with 18 points each in the win. Tyler Sigers had 12 and was followed by Stallworth at 10. Love finished the contest with seven, while Sheridan earned five. Hatcher led Slocomb with 21 points and was followed by Campbell at 12. Birge and Miller also had double-digit showings with 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.

In other boys’ area tournament action Tuesday, Straughn outlasted W.S. Neal, 41-33, in overtime at Hillcrest-Evergreen. Opp withstood a late surge from Daleville and posted a 52-47 win at home. The Bobcats will host Pike County in the 3A Area 4 title game Friday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m., while the Tigers travel back to Hillcrest for the 3A Area 2 championship at 7 p.m.
