Four Covington County teams are still alive in the AHSAA basketball playoffs as the next round sends the teams to the South Regional at Montgomery’s Garrett Coliseum.

Sub-regional game winners compete in one of four regional tournaments according to a pre-drawn bracket. Girls’ teams competing are Red Level and Straughn. Boys’ teams still alive are Florala and Opp.

In Class 3A, Straughn tangles with Pike County on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m. The winner gets Houston Academy or Mobile Christian in the regional final Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m. Opp battles Hillcrest-Evergreen on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m. The winner survives to meet Cottage Hill or Houston Academy in a regional final showdown Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 5:45 p.m.

In Class 1A, Florala takes the court against Choctaw County on Monday, Feb. 20, at 4:30 p.m. in the regional semi-finals. The winner advances to the regional final Thursday, Feb. 23, at 1:45 p.m. against the Brantley-McIntosh winner. Red Level will play Marengo on Monday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. The winner moves on to the regional final for a matchup with either Elba or Leroy on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 12:30 p.m.

All winners advance to the AHSAA state finals scheduled for Monday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 4.

Garrett Coliseum follows a clear bag policy for all ticketed events at the venue. Fans will be able to bring otherwise permissible items into the coliseum by using:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small clutch purses, no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”, the size of the palm of your hand, with or without a handle or straps.

All clear bags and clutch purses will be screened prior to entry into the arena. All bags and purses not meeting the above requirements will not be permitted. Although permitted, childcare items, including diapers, must also be carried in an approved clear bag. Fans carrying required medical supplies or devices into the arena are not subject to the clear bag policy but will be asked to have their bag checked at their entry gate for a thorough screening of the bag and the medical items. The person requiring these supplies or devices must accompany the bag at all times.

To avoid a fire hazard and the unnecessary extra cleanup involved, confetti will not be permitted during the event. Fans must remain in the stands during games and are not allowed on the floor after games.
