LBW Community College will begin a lecture series dedicated to providing parents and guardians with the knowledge needed to support modern parenting beginning Tuesday, March 7.

“LBW seeks to being more than just a traditional community college but a true resource center. The College Diversity Committee would like to invite you to attend Community Candid. The five-part lecture series will focus on the information you need to know regarding mental health and peer pressure, technology and social media, drug awareness and prevention, financial planning and wellness, and diversity and inclusion,” LBW Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Quality Dr. Kristina Griffin said.

Dynamic speakers including Whitney Queen, Walt Merrell, Dr. Emma Cosby, Noah Galloway, and Ebony Bradley are scheduled to speak.

Each session of the lecture series will be hosted on the LBW Andalusia campus beginning at 6 p.m. in the Martha and Solon Dixon Center for Performing Arts. All sessions are free and open to the public. Childcare will be provided to attendees, but registration is required. An affordable meal option will be available for purchase at the Saints Café.

The Community Candid lineup is as follows:

  • March 7 – Financial Planning and Wellness with Whitney Queen
  • March 14 – Mental Health and Peer Pressure with Dr. Emma Cosby
  • March 21 – Drug Awareness and Prevention with Walt Merrell
  • April 4 – Diversity and Inclusion with Sgt. Noah Galloway
  • April 18 – Technology and Social Media with Ebony Bradley

The goal is for attendees to leave each session informed, prepared, and aware of the resources our community offers as support. The idea behind Community Candid is to close the gap between traditional childrearing and the rapidly changing world we live in today.
