Commission approves $2,500 to Florala High School for basketball expenses

The Covington County Commission heard from several Oakey Ridge community citizens regarding a proposed solar project in the area and also approved four items at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 14.

In other business:

  • The commission discussed an inmate’s booking fee with Sheriff Blake Turman. County Attorney Stephanie Cotton will write a proposal regarding this matter for the commission to finalize at a subsequent meeting.
  • The commission named City of Andalusia Dist. 5 councilman Terry Powell as a candidate to serve on the state’s OCAP board.
  • The commission approved an appropriation in the amount of $2,500 from discretionary funds toward Florala High School for travel expenses to the AHSAA State Basketball Finals.
  • The commission approved out-of-state travel for the Sheriff’s Department to send two investigators and a deputy to attend a class in Alpharetta, Georgia, from April 10-14. Commission policy states that any out-of-state travel by County officials or employees must be approved by the commission at an open meeting.
  • The commission approved the declaration of a 2008 Ford F-150 crew cab truck in the Engineer’s Department to be surplus. The vehicle will be listed through GovDeals.
  • The commission approved a resolution to support the effort to local traffic infrastructure by participating with the City of Andalusia and helping alleviate traffic problems related to beach traffic on the western bypass. As part of the resolution, realignment will be made near the Brooklyn Road and S. Three Notch intersection.

 

The next meeting of the Covington County Commission will be held Tuesday, March 28, 9 a.m., at the Covington County Administration Building. The public is invited to attend.
