Officials at Andalusia Health announced that Vickie Demers has been appointed CEO of the hospital and will begin the new role on May 17.

Demers brings more than 22 years of healthcare experience to the position, including serving most of the past four years as COO of Logan Regional Medical Center, a sister ScionHealth community hospital located in West Virginia. She also served seven months as interim CEO of Logan Regional, and prior to that, was interim CEO at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia. From 2014 to 2018, Vickie was CEO at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital, a 100-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility in Birmingham and from 2008-2014, she was CEO of MountainView Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. She also worked at Health Management Associates from 2002-2008 and at Sunlink Health Systems from 1998-2002.

“In her roles as a hospital executive, Demers and her teams consistently made significant progress in key areas such as growing specialty services, increasing patient volumes, improving patient outcomes, and other metrics critical to a hospital’s success. We are confident that she will work with the team at Andalusia to deliver similar successes,” said current Andalusia Health interim CEO Rob Marshall.

Demers earned a Master of Health Administration from Georgia State University, a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine from Bob Jones University.

She is married with two daughters, one graduating from West Virginia University in May and one a freshman at WVU.

Originally from Alabama, Demers comes from a family of nurses, including her mother, two sisters, and other relatives. She said her two standard poodles — Winnie and Pepper — keep her active, along with gardening, traveling, Alabama and Buffalo Bills football, and shopping with her two daughters.

Marshall said he appreciated the support he received while serving as interim CEO at the local hospital.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to our team and our board for their support and hard work during my brief tenure at the hospital. I wish you only the best going forward as you continue to advance the health and well-being of the Andalusia community,” he said.
