The Straughn varsity softball team won four games and went undefeated in a tournament at McKenzie on Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15.

SHS put up strong efforts on both offense and defense on the way to the tournament championship.

“We played really well as a team and hit the ball consistently all weekend. We also looked better on defense with only three errors on the weekend,” Head Coach Candace Tucker said.

The Lady Tigers scored 37 runs and only allowed three runs in the four games of their tournament run. Straughn defeated McKenzie 10-2 and Samson 9-1 before posting back-to-back shutouts over Clarke County (7-0) and Greenville (11-0).

SHS improved its overall record to 12-14 after a 5-1 win against New Brockton on Tuesday, April 18. The regular season closes at home Monday, April 24, against Luverne and Tuesday, April 25, against Andalusia. The Lady Tigers will be the second seed of the upcoming 3A Area 3 Tournament in Opp.

“I hope this tournament gave us the confidence we need to finish our regular season and move into the area tournament,” Tucker said.
