The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania announced on April 25 that American Apparel has been awarded a five-year contract to produce shirts and trousers for the U.S. Marine Corps combat and utility uniform.

American Apparel has facilities in Opp, Selma, Oneonta and Centre, Alabama. The contract includes a base year with four option periods. The contract totals over $71.59 million with a potential total of over 720,000 uniforms over the course of the contract.

The trousers are an item produced at the Opp facility. The Selma facility will produce the blouse/shirts.

According to American Apparel President and CEO Chuck Lambert, the contract will allow for the hiring of additional employees.

“It is a testament of the hard work and effort of our employees that make it possible to continue our efforts to support the men and women that wear the uniform. The company, like many across America, have met the unprecedented challenges dealing with COVID pandemic and record inflation,” Lambert said.

American Apparel has been in business since 1987 and employs approximately 500 people at its four locations and is an equal opportunity employer.

American Apparel is considered one of the premier manufacturers for the Defense Logistics Agency, receiving both silver and gold star awards as a superior supplier to the agency.
