Milton Ray (Sam) Jordan, age 97, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on May 13, 2023.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Magnolia Cemetery in Andalusia on May 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. during a small graveside service attended by family members.

Sam was born July 9, 1925, in Andalusia. In 1953 he graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the construction industry throughout the United States for 43 years and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. On June 24, 1955, in Miami, Florida he married Amma Lillis Drinkard, starting a journey together throughout the country following his career as a Civil Engineer. They resided in Montgomery, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana (twice); Houston, Texas (twice); Birmingham, Alabama; Whittier and Orange, California; Boise, Idaho; Richmond, Virginia; Austin, Texas; Montgomery, Texas; Willis, Texas; Mobile, Alabama and then finally Mansfield, Texas to be near their son and daughter-in-law.

After retiring, he displayed his creativity and skill in a variety of pursuits. He exhaustively researched his family’s genealogy, wrote and published fiction and non-fiction stories and was an extraordinary woodcarver who produced many beautiful shorebird and decoy replicas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Amma Drinkard Jordan; parents, Reuben Jordan and Lola Lee Beals Jordan; his brothers, V. B. Jordan, James W. Jordan, Reuben Jordan Jr. and Paul B. Jordan; his sisters, Eunice Jordan and Edwina Jordan Richburg; and his nephew, Charlie Richburg.

Surviving him are his son, Paul André (Andy) Jordan and daughter-in-law, Stacy; sister-in-law, Hazel Jordan; and nieces and nephews, Pat Siano, Paula Kustos, Suan Lacy, David Jordan, Eddie Jordan and Jim Richburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
