The Straughn Lady Tigers got off to a fast start, jumping to a big lead over Pleasant Home, on their way to an 18-2 victory in three innings.
Straughn scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning, led by Layla Walker who roped a two-run triple. Adding to the scoreboard in that first inning were Callie Ann McVay with a two RBI single and a double by Logan Parrish adding two more runs. Another triple, this one by Adelaide Dunn, brought in another runner while a single by Annlee Wise brought two more home. Batting around the order, McVay added to the offensive burst with an RBI double. Pleasant Home pitcher Lacey McCranie recorded a strikeout to end the damage. When the dust settled, Straughn had taken a 10-0 advantage.
Pleasant Home got on the board in the bottom of the first, initiated by a leadoff walk to Adahline Burks who took second on a wild pitch. A base hit by Ashlynn Heck brought Burks in to put the Lady Eagles on the board. A double off the bat of McCranie gave Heck the green light to take home, but a good throw and defensive play at the plate by catcher Sophie Pettus ended the inning with Straughn leading, 10-1.
The Lady Tigers continued its offensive output in the top of the second. Katelyn Ranta had an RBI double and Walker got another extra-base hit, this time a two-RBI double. McKenzie Castleberry and Dunn each had score-running singles in the inning as Straughn increased its lead to 17-1.
Pleasant Home notched another run in the bottom of the second. Jaiden Reed led off with a line-drive double to left. She advanced to third on a fielder’s choice play to secure the first out on the batter running to first. A walk to Heck put runners at the corners for Pleasant Home and that was followed by a liner to center field by Brooklyn Headley, bringing Reed in to score. A fly ball to center field was played perfectly by Ranta who was able to catch the Pleasant Home baserunner too far off second base for a double play to end the inning.
Pleasant Home played sound defense in the top of the third allowing only one run. Dunn hit a one-out double and then scored on a single by Castleberry to make the score 18-2.
The Lady Eagles were held scoreless in the bottom of the third, leading the game to be called based on the 10-run rule.
Straughn had six players hit doubles in the game and two batters had triples. Walker led the way with four RBIs on two hits, one triple and a double. She also scored twice. Kinsley Short finished with three hits, scoring twice, and McVay had three hits for two RBIs and scored twice. Every player in Straughn’s lineup scored at least once.
Strickland earned the win in the circle for the Lady Tigers, striking out three while surrendering two runs and four hits.
Pleasant Home was led offensively by McCranie and Aliyah Heathers who each notched a triple. Heck and Alivia Taylor each had RBI hits.
McCranie surrendered five earned runs on the mound for the Lady Eagles and recorded the loss.
