The Lady Tigers continued rolling on Thursday with a shut-out victory over the Red Level Lady Tigers, 10-0.
Jaycee Norton shined in the circle for Straughn, pitching a five-inning complete game, giving up only two hits with four strikeouts and no walks in earning the win.
Straughn took advantage of some early miscues by the Red Level defense. With two on, Norton put the ball in play leading to an error, scoring McKena Bailey and Annlee Wise for a 2-0 lead. Red Level pitcher Caroline Blackwell followed with a strikeout to end the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Logan Parrish hit a one-out single to left field. Katelyn Ranta followed with a bunt, moving the runner to second. Adelaide Dunn hit a grounder to third, but the throw to first was off target, allowing Parrish to score, lifting Straughn to a 3-0 lead.
Norton and Blackwell each held the opposing teams in the fourth inning. However, in the fifth, Straughn bats got hot, leading to seven runs in the inning. Ranta led off with a single to left and she moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dunn. Bailey laced a double to right field, bringing Ranta home. A couple of errors on a ground ball by Wise allowed Bailey to score Straughn’s fifth run and Wise found her way all the way to third base and would score on a wild pitch to the next better. Another double by McKenzie Castleberry, along with singles by Layla Walker, Sophie Pettus and Ranta, rounded out the scoring with Straughn stretching its lead to 10-0, and the end of the game based on the 10-run rule.
Leading Straughn at the plate was Walker who went two-for-three with two RBI. Bailey and Ranta each had two hits.
Peyten Martin and Greer Meeks each had a hit for Red Level.
With the win, Straughn pushed its record to 5-2. They will travel to Red Level on Tuesday, March 4, with game time scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Red Level falls to 5-4 on the season. They will begin area play with a home game against Georgiana on Monday, March 3, at 3:30 p.m.
