The Andalusia Coterie Club saw a big turnout for its 52nd Annual Storybook Festival, which returned to its original location in Robinson Park on March 1 after having moved the event indoors the past several years.
The event brings childhood stories to life with actors playing the roles of famous characters. The stories were performed by members of the Coterie Club as well as Troy University’s Pied Pipers, an acting troupe that tours the region performing at schools and other events.
Returning the event to Robinson Park after years of holding it at other locations was a big hit, according to organizers.
“We are very pleased with the attendance and we heard a lot of great comments, especially about having it back at Robinson Park. It had been a long time since we held it there and people seemed to enjoy that atmosphere. The weather was perfect; everything seemed to work in our favor,” said Coterie’s Fundraising Chair Mellisa King, adding that the group hopes to hold the event at Robinson Park moving forward.
The free event has long served as a way for the Coterie Club to engage the community and promote reading.
“The Storybook Festival is Coterie’s way of giving back to the community and helping to promote reading. Each year, we love holding this event and getting to see all of the children enjoy the stories,” King said.
Sponsors for this year’s Storybook Festival included: Andalusia Dental Group, Andalusia Health, Balanced Family Health Care, Beacon of Hope, Casey Propane, Covington Casket, Covington Electric, Darby’s Village Pharmacy, David’s Catfish, Harper Electric, High Heavens Bounce House, John and Faye Vick, O’Neal Agency, Palmer and Sons, PowerSouth, Southeast Gas, Walmart, and Zaxby’s.
