The Opp Lady Bobcats mixed timely hitting and taking advantage of the opposition’s defensive errors to secure a 11-1 victory over Area 4 opponent Pike County on Thursday.

Opp scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game on the 10-run rule.

Bradleigh Lanier had a strong performance in the circle for Opp, holding the Lady Bulldogs to only one run on two hits while striking out eight batters.

Pike County was the first to score, when a walk in the top of the first led to a run on an error later in the inning. While the Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead, it proved to be the team’s only run of the game.

Opp quickly got the upper hand, scoring three runs in their half of the first inning. Crislyn Birge led off and reached on an error. Lanier followed with a single that brought Birge home to tie the game, 1-1. Addison Moseley followed with another base hit, putting runners at first and second. A base hit by Taylor Adams brought Lanier home. With runners on second and third, a groundball by Autumn Green was misplayed by the Pike County defense, allowing Moseley to score, giving Opp a 3-1 lead after one inning.

The Lady Bulldogs led off the second with a single, but Lanier struck out two, avoiding any damage.

Opp added to its lead in the bottom of the third with a line-drive perfectly placed along the third-base line by Taylor Adams who circled the bases for an inside-the-park homerun and a 4-1 edge for the Lady Bobcats.

After two quick strikeouts to start the bottom of the fourth, Opp came back to score two more runs after Lanier reached on an error and then scored on a misplayed fly ball off the bat of Moseley who also circled the bases to score on the play, making the score 6-1.

Opp finished off the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth. Madi Wilson opened the inning with a walk, proceeded to steal second and then advanced to second on a grounder by McKenzie Henderson. Gradyn Lunsford singled to right field and advanced to second on an error as Henderson came in with Opp’s seventh run.

Ryan Lanier kept things going by being hit by a pitch. Birge hit a bunt single, loading the bases. B. Lanier followed with a fly ball to left field that was misplayed by the defender, bringing in two and putting runners at second and third with a 9-1 lead. Birge scored the tenth run on a passed ball as J. Ivey, a pinch runner, moved to third. Moseley ended the game with a double down the right field line, bringing B. Lanier home for an 11-1 final score.

Adams led the Lady Bobcat offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. B. Lanier and Moseley each collected two hits and one RBI. Wilson collected two stolen bases in the game.

Pike County fell to 1-12 with the loss and are 0-1 in Area 4.

The Lady Bobcats improved to 5-3 on the season and open area play 1-0 with the victory. They will host Straughn on Tuesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m.
