Hinton Durwood (H.D.) Edgar, lovingly known as “Buck”, of Opp, Alabama, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 83. Mr. Edgar was best known for his willingness to help others, his strong sense of civic duty, his love of adventure, and, most of all, his deep love for his family.

Durwood is survived by his wife of 24 years, Martha Petty Edgar; children, Melanie Edgar, Emily Edgar (Kelly), Mindell Edgar Glisson (Dale), Macie Edgar Taylor (Deuce), Angus Edgar (Stacie), and Garrett Smith (Hope); eight grandchildren, Ali Taylor Goins (Chris), Sara Rebekah Glisson Moulton (Dylan), Maggie Taylor, Thomas Glisson, Daxton Edgar, Sarah Beth Smith, Sadie Claire Smith, and Ellie Mae Smith; and blessed with 3 beautiful great-granddaughters, Sailor Rebecca Goins, Dollie Mae Moulton, and Suzannah Taylor Goins. He is also survived by his sister, Vivian Edgar Stewart; brother, Butch Edgar (Noreen); and his faithful dog, Skeeter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Mae Knight Edgar and Arthur Casey Edgar; and brother, Dudley Edgar.

Funeral services for Mr. Hinton Durwood (H.D.) Edgar will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from Westview Baptist Church with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Westview Baptist Church from 11:00 am until service time on Wednesday. Gary Miller and Jimmy Aaron will be officiating with Garrett Smith, Ben Courson, Josh Young, Donald Smith, Nickey Carnley and Aaron Hightower serving as pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the church of one’s choice.
