With the potential for severe weather impacting our area this weekend, the Covington County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is urging all residents to stay weather-aware and take precautions now to ensure their safety.

If severe weather occurs within Covington County, the EMA will open a designated “Storm Shelter” at Andalusia Junior High School. The exact opening time will be announced in advance to give individuals adequate time to travel safely to the shelter.

Residents choosing to utilize the Storm Shelter should be advised that no supplies will be provided. Individuals must bring all essential items with them, including water, snacks, medications, bedding, and any necessary personal items. The Storm Shelter is a refuge from dangerous weather, not a full-service shelter.

“We want all residents to take this threat seriously and to have multiple ways of receiving weather alerts,” said Susan Harris, Director of Emergency Management for Covington County. “Please ensure you have an operational weather radio and stay tuned to local radio stations and our official sources for updates.”

To stay informed, follow the Covington County EMA, Covington County Commission, and your local radio stations for the most accurate and timely information.

The address to Andalusia Junior High School is 701 3rd Street, Andalusia, Alabama 36420.
