On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Straughn High School Bass Fishing Team made their first stop of the 2025 tournament season on the Alabama Bass Nation trail at Lincoln Landing on Lake Logan Martin. It was a very cold start to the morning as 133 boats anxiously awaited to blast off.
Logan Martin Lake begins at the discharge of Neely Henry Dam near Ohatchee, Alabama (near the site of former Coosa River Lock 3) and extends south to Logan Martin Dam near Vincent, Alabama. The Coosa River is the primary inflow for the lake, in addition to numerous lakes and rivers. Prevailing flow is from the north to the south along a meandering course. The Coosa River arises in the Appalachian Mountains and its waters, and those of Logan Martin Lake, eventually discharge into Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico through the Alabama River and Mobile River.
Logan Martin Reservoir is located in east-central Alabama on the Coosa River, approximately 30 miles east of Birmingham (the lake borders St. Clair and Talladega counties). The reservoir extends 48.5 miles from the dam upstream to Neely Henry dam and contains 15,263 acres.
Numerous local and national fishing tournaments are held on Lake Logan Martin annually. The lake has also hosted championship events of the FLW Outdoors Tour and the Bassmaster Classic in 1992, 1993, and 1997. Large numbers of both largemouth and spotted bass inhabit the lake, as well as striped bass, white bass, hybrid bass, crappie, catfish (mostly of the channel variety), bream, drum, carp, and gar.
All five teams fished on Lake Logan Martin; four teams weighed in fish. There was a total of 133 boats participating.
The team of Rex Burkett/Kal-El Savage finished 37th with five fish weighing in 7.86 pounds.
The team of Evan Ray/Bryson Harrison finished 78th with two fish weighing in 2.83 pounds.
The team of Isaac McMath/Drayden Whitten finished 86th with one fish weighing in 1.65 pounds.
The team of Austin Alexander/Brooks Clark finished 88th with one fish weighing in 1.60 pounds.
The Straughn High School and Junior High School Bass Fishing Teams will be competing on March 15, 2025, on Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama.
We are so proud of these anglers. They worked hard on Lake Logan Martin. It was a tough day, but they pushed through. We are looking forward to what the rest of the season has in store for them.
We are praying and seeking for your prayers for the Citronelle High School Bass Team who had a serious boating accident. The captain and both anglers incurred injuries. However, they are expected to make a full recovery.
Thank you to all of our boat captains, parents, community and sponsors for making sure our boys are supported during the tournaments.
