Mrs. Sherry Rabren Flowers, 89, of Montgomery died in her sleep at her residence on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Sherry Rabren Flowers

She was born on Nov. 25, 1935, in Andalusia as Norma Sherry Rabren, the second child of Harvey and Annie Clyde Rabren. She attended Red Level High School and Alabama College at Montevallo, where she earned a Bachelor of Science.

She returned to Andalusia after college and began teaching typing, shorthand, and other occupational preparatory classes at Andalusia High School. There, she met fellow teacher Thomas (Tommy) Flowers. The two of them were married in 1960 and remained so until his death in 2021.

Sherry and Tommy moved to Montgomery in 1963 after the birth of their first child, and they lived there for the remainder of their lives. Sherry was a proud homemaker focused on family and giving her time to helping others. She did volunteer work at the schools of her children, Jeff and Lee, ranging from substitute teaching, office administration, and chaperoning field trips with sometimes rowdy children. Her cooking was renowned amongst her friends, neighbors, Tommy’s co-workers, and the friends of her children. Particular favorites were her fried chicken, pies, and deviled eggs. Her parenting instincts and love of children often led her to assume the role of second mother to her children’s friends and others. Her first and only grandchild, Anna, was born in 1999. She relished being “Granny”, and as Anna grew up, her love of children drew her to the children of close neighbors for whom she was almost another grandmother. She loved gardening and relaxing on her patio enjoying the flowers, trees, and birds.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 1 p.m., at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin on the same day at 11 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

In addition, a casual reception will be held on Sunday, March 23 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Sherry’s home in Montgomery for family and friends to share remembrances.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Bonnie Flowers of Madison, Alabama; daughter, Lee Flowers of Tallahassee, Florida; granddaughter, Anna Flowers of Blacksburg, Virginia; and sister, Shelia Wilson of Andalusia. Sherry would also want us to include her unofficially adopted children and grandchildren and her three old granddogs.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Flowers; parents, Harvey and Annie Clyde Rabren; brother, Harold Rabren; and sister, Scarlett Rabren Parsons.

For those who may wish to make a charitable donation in her memory, the family suggests Children’s Hospital of Alabama or another favorite children’s charity to honor her love of children.
