The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs brought some big bats — and some patience — to the field against Luverne Tuesday as two homeruns by Taya Newton, another by Kailey Jackson, and nine walks led the way to a 15-2 victory.

Sarah Katherine Reese gets ready for the pitch against Luverne. Reese was honored prior to the game as the only senior on this year’s squad.
Andalusia scored five runs in both the first and second innings and held Luverne scoreless until the fourth when the Lady Tigers scored their two runs.
After Jackson sat down Luverne’s batters in order to start the game, Andalusia got to work. Newton led off the bottom of the first with a hard hit ball that was mishandled by a Luverne infielder and Austin Seal earned a walk to put runners at first and second. A double by Jackson brought both runners home for a 2-0 lead. The next batter, McKenzie Barrow, hit a double to left field that brought pinch runner K. Spears home. An error on a fly ball by Blakelyn Bass scored Barrow and that was followed by the third double of the inning, this one by Lacey Wells, which brought in Bass to give Andalusia a 5-0 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up where they left off in the bottom of the second as Newton got things going with a long homer over the left-centerfield fence. Austin Seal followed that with grounder to the pitcher that went past the first baseman on the throw, allowing Seal to circle the bases to make the score 7-0. A hit batter and two walks loaded the bases and Jessa Ann Dubose brought in K. Wood on a sacrifice fly. Another sacrifice fly by Bass and a wild pitch led to the final runs of the inning as Andalusia went ahead 10-0.

Kailey Jackson takes a big swing for the Lady Bulldogs. Jackson recorded two hits in two at-bats and threw four innings for Andalusia.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the third with a walk earned by Stella Wells and Newton followed with her second homer of the game. A few batters later, Jackson hit a two-run homer to centerfield for a 14-0 lead.
Luverne scored two runs in the top of the fourth with three singles, a walk, and a hit batter.
Andalusia ended the scoring in the bottom of the fourth when Newton came in on a passed ball, leading to the 15-2 final.
Jackson pitched four innings for Andalusia, giving up two runs on four hits while recording four strikeouts. Newton gave up one hit and one walk in one inning of work.
Jackson and Newton also had big days at the plate. Jackson went two-for-two with a homer and a double, four RBI, two runs, and a walk. Newton had two hits, both homeruns, while driving in three, scoring four times, and earning a walk. Dubose went two-for-three with an RBI and Barrow had a double, walked three times and scored twice.
The Lady Bulldogs upped their season record to 26-8 and will host the area playoff Friday, April 25. Results of those games will be available at andalusiastarnews.com as well as the Wednesday, April 30, print edition.
