Mrs. Brenda Kay Davis Carmack, age 75, of Opp passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at her home.
Brenda and her husband, Johnny Carmack, were high school sweethearts and were married on Sept. 4, 1969. On July 14, 1971, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Leslie Ann. During the early years of their marriage, Johnny enrolled in the School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. During this time, Brenda was employed at the university. Upon Johnny’s graduation, they returned to Opp for Johnny to practice pharmacy. For the next 25 years, Brenda worked at the USDA Farm Service Agency. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and gardening. She had well-groomed yards and beautifully cultivated flowers. Her great delight was spending time with her grandchildren, Taylor and John Nolen. After she was diagnosed with ALS, she fought a valiant battle to live life as well as possible. This battle ended with her peaceful death at her home with Johnny. Brenda will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Brenda is survived by her husband, John R. Carmack; daughter, Leslie Carmack Gohagan; grandchildren, Taylor Gohagan and John Nolen Gohagan; sister, Charlotte Lunsford and husband, Jimmy; sisters-in-law, Carmen Davis and Nancy Hammett and husband, Seth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Frances Harrison Davis and Junior Davis; and brother, Ronnie Davis.
Funeral services for Brenda will be held Sunday, April 27, 2 p.m., from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jeff Stovall will be officiating with John Nolen Gohagan, Wyatt Horn, Hunter Jones, Brandon Bledsoe, Jim Lunsford and Lee Davis serving as pallbearers.
