The Opp Cultural Arts Center recently hosted a group of talented students who painted landscape sceneries and still lifes under the guidance of the German painter and instructor Guido Frick.

This well-known artist has come regulary to the Opp area over the past several years to help excited students improve their skills in the impressionistic painting method. Impressionistic means not trying to paint photographic precise but to show a personal view about the subject the painters choose.

Frick’s goal was to give his students a chance to get experiences in painting indoor as well as painting on location. On one of the three workshop days, the Frank Jackson State Park was the location to paint some nice views of the lake.

“It’s definitely unusual but exciting for me as a European to paint in the neighborhood of snakes and alligators,” Frick said.

Some of the students follow Frick’s teaching for years, but students from out of state are drawn to Opp to join this master painter who is published in art books and many art magazines. He hopes to be back for another workshop in the fall.

The Opp Cultural Arts Center is located at 107 S. Main St. in Opp. For more information email oppculturalarts@gmail.com, visit the Opp Cultural Arts Center on Facebook, or call 334-504-9020.
