Mr. Jerry Lynn Reed, age 76, of Enterprise, formerly of Opp, joined his cherished daughter, Amie, in everlasting repose on April 30, 2025.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 1 p.m., in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise. Burial with full military honors will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at noon until service time.
Jerry was born Feb. 4, 1949, to the late Anna Belle Reed and raised in Upshur County, Buckhannon, West Virginia, and was a graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1967. Following his graduation from high school, Jerry entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served for a period of four years including 18 months in Vietnam during the waning period of that conflict.
Upon separation from the Marine Corps, Jerry returned to school earning a Registered Nurse Certificate from Providence School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama, in 1976. Subsequent to his passing the state examination to obtain a Registered Nurse license, Jerry re-entered the military service as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps.
During his tenure as an Air Force Nurse, Jerry went on to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois, and a Master’s degree in Anesthesia from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois.
Jerry culminated his 21 years of military service as a chief nurse anesthetist and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from the service in 1998.
Following his military retirement, Jerry relocated to Opp, Alabama, and was employed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for a period of 18 years at Mizell Memorial Hospital. Jerry permanently retired in 2016 and relocated to Enterprise where he resided until his death.
Jerry is preceded in death by his daughter, Amie Lynn Reed Beck, and grandparents, Philip and Mabel Reed.
He is survived by his wife, Hellon Amelia Schneider Reed, to whom he was married for 50 years; his son-in-law, Josh Beck; and his two grandchildren, Trent Reed Beck and Hayley Lynn Beck of Enterprise.
