Lady Bulldogs end 2025 at South Regional with 30-win season

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs won the first game in the AHSAA South Regional in Gulf Shores Monday, but fell in the second, creating a must-win situation going into Tuesday.
In the first game Tuesday, Andalusia held a 3-0 lead going into the sixth, but Headland came back with a four-run seventh inning to bring the Lady Bulldogs’ season to a close.
Andalusia 15, UMS-Wright 5
Kailey Jackson got off to a hot start in the circle, striking out the side in the top of the first inning.
In the Andalusia half of the inning, a walk by Taya Newton, followed by four consecutive singles by Austin Seal, Sarah Katherine Reese, Jackson, and McKenzie Barrow scored three runs. One more came home on a bunt by Blakelynn Bass, giving Andalusia a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs upped the lead to 5-0 on an RBI single by Reese in the bottom of the second.
Jessa Ann Dubose led off the bottom of the third with a double and she came home on a single by Bass. Later in the inning, Andalusia made the score 8-0 when Lacey Wells scored on a double by Seal.
An error went in Andalusia’s favor in the bottom of the fourth, leading to a score by Jackson and a single brought home Bass for an 11-0 advantage.
UMS got on the board in the top of the fifth with a couple of singles and added more in the sixth to cut the Andalusia lead to 11-5.
But in the bottom of the inning, Andalusia ripped four singles to make the score 15-5, ending the game on the 10-run rule.
Jackson pitched 5.2 innings, striking out 10 UMS batters and giving up two earned runs. Newton came in and recorded the final out.
Seal, Reese and Jackson each had three hits for the Lady Bulldogs. Seal and Dubose each had doubles. Seal finished with three RBI while Jackson and Newton each scored three runs.
Andalusia 0, Houston Academy 12
The Lady Bulldogs could not get much going against the Houston Academy Raiders in the second game Monday, falling 12-0.
Houston Academy jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with four runs, aided by three errors from the Lady Bulldog defense. They made it 7-0 in the top of the second with two walks and two singles.
The Lady Rams pulled away for good in the top of the fifth, scoring three more runs, leading to the final score of 12-0.
The Lady Bulldogs got a couple on in the bottom of the fifth with two-out singles by Wells and Newton, but a grounder ended Andalusia’s chances of avoiding the 10-run rule ending.
Andalusia had a total of five hits in the game with Wells having two of those. Newton, Reese and Barrow had the others.
Jackson pitched all five innings for the Lady Bulldogs, giving up seven earned runs.
Andalusia 3, Headland 4
Needing three wins on Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs came up short as Headland came from behind to eliminate Andalusia, 4-3.
After a quick first inning, the Lady Bulldogs got on the board and scored their only runs in the top of the second. Jackson led off the inning by reaching on an error and scored later on a passed ball. Dubose earned a one-out walk and an error brought her in and allowed Bass to circle the bases to third base. Wells reached on a bunt that also scored Bass to make the score 3-0.
Jackson continued to keep Headland runners off the bases until the sixth inning when an error and two singles put the Lady Rams on the board. They made the score 3-2 on a fielder’s choice as the game went into the final inning.
Andalusia had runners at second and third in the top of the seventh, but were unable to bring a run home.
Headland’s comeback began with a defensive error followed by a single and a walk that loaded the bases. A hit batter forced home the tying run, 3-3, with one out. Headland then nailed a line-drive triple to take the 4-3 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs, with only one senior in Sarah Katherine Reese, finish one of its most successful seasons with an overall record of 30-10 and earned the area championship.
