Officials with the Opp Police Department are seeking suspects involved in an armed robbery early Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the Tom Thumb store on W. Cummings Avenue at approximately 3:16 a.m. where it is reported that two young black males demanded money from the clerk using a handgun. Once they received some cash, the two suspects fled on foot toward Virginia Avenue.
Law enforcement officials searched the area and found some evidence, including the possible weapon used, which turned out to be a toy gun.
Opp police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the two suspects.
One suspect was wearing all black clothing with some white visible in the shoes. The second suspect was wearing a red-colored jacket, purple backpack with Reebok written in white, black pants with white strips. Both suspects were wearing black partial face masks.
Officials are asking residents of that area to review their home security or other camera footage during the times of 2:45 to 3:30 a.m. for suspicious activity or for people matching the description of the suspects. Opp Police said they would assist anyone who needs help accessing and reviewing their security video.
