GALLERY: WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS: County has nine track athletes bring home state titles

Several athletes from Florala, Opp, Pleasant Home, Red Level, and Straughn represented Covington County and their schools at the 2025 AHSAA State Track Championships from Thursday, May 1, through Saturday, May 3.

Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level athletes competed in Cullman, while Opp and Straughn competed in Gulf Shores.

The county had a total of nine athletes bring home 10 state titles.

At Pleasant Home School, Chris Scott was the state champion in 1A boys pole vault. Presley Kelley was the state champion in 1A girls pole vault. Jackson Hawkins, Hyram Josey, John Isaac Hawkins, and Nathaniel Hobbs were the state champions in the 1A boys 4×800 relay event.

At Red Level School, Miracle Wright was the state champion in both the 1A girls 100 meter and 1A girls 200 meter. Caston Black was the state champion in 1A boys long jump. Ben Carroll was the state champion in 1A boys javelin.

Other medalists were Hobbs, Jackson Hawkins, Alex Scott, and Chris Scott from Pleasant Home finishing in third place at the 1A boys 4×800 meter relay event. Emma Grace Anderson, Presley Kelley, Jenna Kate Clark, and Kate Kelley from Pleasant Home also finished in third place at the 1A girls 4×800 meter relay event.

At Straughn High School, Avery Smith finished in third place in the 4A boys shot put.
