Florala earns win over Millry; falls to Sweet Water, Leroy

Florala earned a 6-3 win over Millry but fell to Sweet Water, 5-3, and Leroy, 17-2, as the Lady Wildcats closed the season at the 1A South Regional this week.
Florala 3, Sweet Water 5
Paige Musso worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first and struck out the side in the second as the game was scoreless after two innings.
Florala struck first in the third when Ella Caraway singled and drove home Payton Murray who had also singled. Sweet Water once again had the bases loaded, but Musso earned another strikeout and kept the score 1-0 after three innings.
Aubree Powell led off the fourth with a double and scored on an error as the lead moved to 2-0 after four innings.
Caraway gave the Lady Wildcats a 3-0 lead with an RBI groundout in the fifth. The Lady Bulldogs finally woke up and posted four runs in the bottom half for a 4-3 lead after five innings.
An error in the home sixth led to the fifth run as the game came to a close in the top of the seventh.
Kiley Caine finished 3-for-3 for Florala. Maci Blount and Jailee Jones were 1-for-3, while Murray and Powell each went 1-for-4. Musso tossed all six innings and gave up five runs (two earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts.
Florala 6, Millry 3
After three scoreless innings to start the game, Millry broke through with a home run in the fourth and took a 2-0 lead. Powell began the bottom half with a single and cut the deficit in half when she scored on an RBI groundout from Jayla Davis.
Florala responded in a big way with five runs on five hits in the fifth inning. Caine singled home Murray who doubled and tied the score at 2-2. Musso stole home as Caine came to the plate on a passed ball. Blount knocked a two-run single and brought in Powell and Skyler Murdock for a 6-2 lead after five innings.
Millry pulled within 6-3 with a double and an error in the sixth. Two walks in the top of the seventh made things interesting, but Musso continued to shine in critical situations as Florala held on for the win.
Blount was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Caine went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Powell was 2-for-4 as the Lady Wildcats posted 13 hits in the game. Musso earned the win and threw a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with 10 strikeouts.
Florala 2, Leroy 17
In an elimination game, Leroy started fast for a 4-0 lead. Caine was hit by a pitch and scored the first run on an RBI single by Powell to bring Florala within 4-1 after one inning.
The Lady Bears posted single runs in the second and fifth along with five in the third to increase the lead to 11-1. Caraway kept the Lady Wildcats alive in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single and drove in Caine to make the score 1 1-2.
Leroy then posted six more runs in the top of the sixth as Florala saw its season come to a close.
Caraway finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Caine was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Murdock went 2-for-3 in an 11-hit attack. Musso threw her third straight complete game.
The Lady Wildcats finished the season with a 17-10 record. They finished area runner-up and made their first South Regional appearance since 2018.
