Opp started with back-to-back shutouts over W.S. Neal, 15-0, and Satsuma, 2-0, but ran into four-time defending state champion Orange Beach, 11- 1, and saw the season end in a rematch with a 2-1 nine-inning loss to Satsuma.

Opp 15, W.S. Neal 0
Opp protected the plate with three straight walks to begin the game. Crislyn Birge scored the first run when Bradleigh Lanier reached on an error. Autumn Green cashed in a two-run single and brought in McKenzie Henderson and Lanier for a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Addison Moseley was dealing in the circle and struck out the side in the top of the second. Two more walks in the bottom half from Rylie Kate Thrash and Jaidyn Ivey came home on a groundout by Taylor Adams and extended the Lady Bobcats to a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Moseley repeated her second inning with a 1-2-3 third and again struck out all three batters. Opp posted seven hits on 10 runs in its half and closed out the game early.

Birge had a 2-for-2 game with an RBI and two runs scored. Lanier was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Green also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Moseley struck out seven and did not allow W.S. Neal to reach base in three innings.

Opp 2, Satsuma 0
In a low-scoring battle, Opp dented the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth. Henderson scored the initial run on an RBI single from Madie Wilson. The score stayed 1-0 until the seventh inning.

Wilson led off the top of the seventh with a single and took third after two sacrifice bunts. Ivey gave the Lady Bobcats an insurance run with an RBI single and upped the lead to 2-0. Lanier set down Satsuma in order on just nine pitches as Opp advanced to the winner’s bracket finals.

Wilson led the bats with a 2-for-3 showing and had an RBI and run scored. Adams and Moseley were both 1-for-2, and Ivey finished 1-for-4. Lanier earned the complete-game shutout win and allowed just four hits to go with six strikeouts.

Opp 1, Orange Beach 11
With a berth in the state tournament on the line, Orange Beach began the game with four runs for a 4-0 lead after one inning.

Ryan Lanier grounded out with the bases loaded in the second and brought Opp within 4-1 when Henderson scored.

The Lady Makos matched the run for a 5-1 lead after two innings. Following a scoreless third, Orange Beach erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Opp was unable to score in the fifth as the game was called early.

Ivey and Birge were each 1-for-2. Moseley allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and struck out three in 1 2/3 innings. Lanier pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs (four earned) on two hits with two strikeouts.

Opp 1, Satsuma 2
Much like the first game, pitching was the biggest highlight of all in another duel. The game was scoreless after seven innings, and extra frames were needed in this elimination game to decide the next state tournament participant.

Satsuma came up in the top of the eighth inning and finally broke the scoreless tie with a run. Opp had a tense bottom of the frame with two quick outs. Ivey kept the game alive with a double, and Birge delivered in the clutch with another double to force a 1-1 tie after eight innings.

The ninth inning was almost a mirror image of the eighth. The Lady Gators had two fast outs but found a way and reclaimed the lead at 2-1 with a two-run double of their own. Green earned a two-out walk, but the Lady Bobcats could not score and saw their season end.

Lanier was 2-for-3, while both Ivey and Thrash went 1-for- 3, and Birge finished 1-for-4. Moseley allowed two runs on five hits and struck out nine while pitching all nine innings.

Opp finished the season with a 33-11 record and its fifth straight area championship.
