Red Level put out with final-inning score by Southern Choctaw

Red Level battled to the very end but saw the season come to a conclusion with a 7-1 loss to Leroy and a 6-5 setback against Southern Choctaw at the 1A South Regional this week.

Leroy had two runs in the first followed by single runs in the third and fourth for a 4-0 lead after four innings.

Red Level manufactured its first run in the fifth when Kayden Lord led off the inning with a single. After two groundouts advanced her to third, Lord scored on a passed ball and trimmed the deficit to 4-1 after five innings.

The Lady Bears pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth and increased their lead to 7-1, which stood as the final score.

Emmie Snider went 3-for-3 for the Lady Tigers, and Lord was 2-for- 3, while Greer Meeks finished 1-for-3. Caroline Blackwell threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts. Snider struck out two of three batters in 2/3 of an inning.

In an elimination game, back-to-back errors allowed Red Level to grab an early 1-0 lead. Payten Martin then lifted a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Pitching settled down over the next couple of innings. The Lady Tigers pushed a run across in the top of the fourth when Lord reached on an error and came home on another defensive mistake. The Lady Indians took advantage of an error and crept within 3-1 after four innings.

Blackwell reached on a one-out error in the fifth and came home after Lord singled with two outs. Lord then scored on a passed ball and gave Red Level a 5-1 lead. Southern Choctaw responded with three runs in the bottom half and made the score 5-4 after five innings.

A leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth came to the plate and tied the score at 5-5 after six innings.

Zoey Phillips had a single in the top of the seventh but was unable to score. The Lady Indians loaded the bases with two outs and scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Phillips posted a 2-for- 3 showing in the game, while Snider, Lord, and Kamry Lambert all went 1-for-4.

Blackwell tossed five innings with four runs (two earned) on five hits and five strikeouts. Snider closed out the game with two unearned runs on two hits and four strikeouts in the final 1 2/3 innings.

Red Level finished the season with a 16-14 record and was the area runner-up.
