A two-vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday, May 15, at approximately 1:33 p.m. has claimed the life of a McKenzie woman.
According to River Falls Police Chief, Marcus Laster, Veta Mae Ealum, 70, of McKenzie sustained fatal injuries when the 2015 Ford Focus she was operating collided with a 2013 Ford F-150 driven by Dewayne Morris, 65, of Andalusia.
“Morris had stopped in the left northbound lane of Alabama Highway 55 and was waiting to turn into a driveway when Ealum collided with the F-150. Due to the severity of Ealum’s injuries, Enterprise Air was requested to transport her to Fort Walton, Florida, where she was pronounced deceased,” Laster said.
The accident occurred on Alabama Highway 55 North at the 133-mile marker, just past JH Sellers Road. Both lanes of traffic were shut down during rescue efforts.
Chief Laster extends gratitude to the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Advanced EMS, WAAO, River Falls Fire Department, ALDOT, and Enterprise Air for their assistance.
Nothing further is available as the investigation remains underway.
