Red Level School’s valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2025 are Mackenzie Barnes and Bailey Green, respectively.

Both graduates were grateful to represent their senior class with these academic honors.

“I am very honored to represent my class as valedictorian and Red Level as a whole. I have worked hard for my academic achievements my entire life and am thankful for the teachers who have helped me over the years,” Barnes said.

“Representing my senior class as salutatorian means the world to me. It is such a great honor and privilege to represent my community and the Tiger family,” Green said.

Barnes plans to attend LBW Community College in the fall and then transfer to Auburn University to major in Chemistry.

“I chose this field because science has always been my favorite subject in school, especially chemistry. Chemistry is the central science that explains what makes up the world around us. There is always something new to learn about it,” she said.

Green also plans to attend LBW Community College in the fall and pursue a degree in Sonography at the MacArthur campus.

“We toured the Opp campus on one of the Covington County Youth Leadership youth visits, and we looked at this program. I fell in love with the whole idea of ultrasounds,” she said.

Both Barnes and Green agreed that the family atmosphere and being around their peers were the two most enjoyable parts of their time at RLS.

“I most enjoyed classes with my favorite teachers and meeting my best friends,” Barnes said.

“The most enjoyable part about being a student at Red Level School is the amazing bonds and friends I have made with former and present teachers, students, and administrators. We are all truly like family,” Green said.

While Barnes and Green look forward to their graduation, their high school memories will take them into the next chapter of their lives.

“I will miss hanging out with my friends every day and talking to my favorite teachers. They are the people who have made me who I am today, and I’m extremely grateful to have known them,” Barnes said.

“I will miss the different sporting activities and clubs that I have been a part of throughout my high school career at Red Level,” Green said.

Both are ready to take on the real world and see what lies ahead in the future.

“I look forward to becoming more independent and meeting new people. In the next five to 10 years, I see myself working as a forensic scientist in Montgomery or Birmingham,” Barnes said.

“I am looking forward to the new life lessons and experiences that I will gain in the real world. In the next five to 10 years, I see myself with a degree in Sonography working in a doctor’s office with a husband and possibly kids,” Green said.

Mackenzie is the daughter of Julie Brooks. She has three sisters, Ethan Wallace, Abigail Kilpatrick, and Samantha Barnes.

Bailey is the daughter of Lauren and Clif Green. She has two siblings, Kade Green and Haisley Green.
