AIK shines at Florida Panhandle Championships

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate team members competed at the Florida Panhandle Championships in Panama City, Florida, on May 31.

The event was hosted by Master Jimmy J. Croley, and it was an excellent event with some very good competitors representing multiple styles of martial arts.

AIK’s team competed at the event and finished well.

Johnathan Rudd competed in the 13-14-year-old youth category and finished in first place of youth black belt weapons.

Henley Sargent competed in the 6-and-under beginner category and finished in second place of kata and second place of fighting.

Lawrence Sargent competed in the 7-and-8 intermediate category and finished in first place of weapons, second place of kata, and first place of fighting.

Eli Rudd competed in the 7-and-8 intermediate category and finished in third place of weapons and first place of kata.

Drew Marcotte competed in the 9-10-year-old intermediate category and finished in first place of weapons, second place of kata, and first place of fighting.

Harless Huckabaa competed strongly but did not place.

Mark Rudd competed in the black belt 51-and-up category and finished in first place of weapons, first place of kata, and first place of fighting. Rudd was named the adult kata/weapons black belt grand champion and senior men’s black belt fighting grand champion.

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate will host the 25th annual South Alabama Karate Open on Saturday, June 14, beginning at 8 a.m., in the Straughn High School Gymnasium.
