Joe Nix

Nix, who has dedicated himself to serving the people of Andalusia, is focused on continuing his efforts to improve the quality of life for all residents, with a particular focus on the needs of District 1.

“I’ve always been committed to putting our community first, and I believe there’s still much more we can accomplish together,” Nix said. “I’m seeking re-election to continue working toward a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Andalusia for everyone.”

A 1975 graduate of Andalusia High School, Nix has outlined 11 key priorities he intends to pursue during his re-election campaign.

Affordable Housing
“I want to increase efforts to seek funding for affordable single-family and multi-family housing to benefit qualifying residents, including grant opportunities for housing rehabilitation,” Nix said.

Infrastructure Improvements
“My goal is to advocate for funding to enhance infrastructure throughout the city, particularly in District 1. This includes street resurfacing, sidewalk installation in underserved areas, and upgrades to aging water, storm drainage, and sewer systems.”

City Abatement Program
“We need to consider expanding the city’s abatement program to more vigorously address slum and blighted conditions, including structural clearance and demolition of abandoned and unsafe buildings, and alleviation of overgrowth and junk,” he added.

Economic Development and Entrepreneurship
“Explore possibilities to establish a small business incubator to encourage local entrepreneurship and support the creation of new businesses,” Nix said.

Public Safety Communication
“As a City Councilman, one of my primary goals is to look out for the best interests of our citizens. I plan to work towards improving communication and collaboration between residents and local law enforcement to promote a safer and more homogeneous community.”

Recreation and Parks
“I will strive to encourage City officials to pursue untapped State and Federal funding to expand recreational opportunities while also allocating sufficient local resources to the Coleman-Robertson Center and Armstrong Lake,” he said.

Downtown Revitalization and Job Creation
“The City of Andalusia is committed to revitalizing its downtown area. If re-elected, I plan to continue this work and pursue additional economic development projects to create and retain jobs.”

Support for Local Businesses
“We are a city rich in tradition, and we must preserve that as we move forward. To achieve this, I’d like to introduce incentives to recognize and support our long-standing local businesses,” Nix said.

City Workforce Salaries
“As the cost of living continues to rise, it’s essential that we ensure competitive salaries for our city employees to retain skilled workers,” he said.

Support for Education
“Education in our community must remain a priority. We must continue advocating for strong support of the Andalusia School System and work in the best interests of our students, administrators, educators, and support staff as education continues to evolve,” Nix said.

Comprehensive City Planning
“To ensure sustainable growth, I will strive to encourage the involvement of stakeholders in sustainability efforts to include employees, the public, and investors.  I’d like for the City to follow recommendations and devise annual elements to implement from the city’s newly updated Comprehensive Plan to keep Andalusia moving forward,” he added.

Nix previously served three terms as a board member for Andalusia City Schools before joining the City Council. His experience and leadership have made a significant impact on the community.

“I’m proud of the progress we’ve made, but I know we can do even more to make Andalusia an even better place to live,” Nix said. “I’m asking for your vote to help keep our city moving forward.”

Nix officially qualified for the August 26, 2025, election on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

“I appreciate your support for my re-election campaign to represent District 1 on the Andalusia City Council,” Nix said. “If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I would be honored to have your vote in August.”
